Sometimes it’s hard to master the chaos within you. As a Passyunk Square resident, mom, and real estate agent, the hustle and bustle of the city can really tire me out. I work in an industry where I face a plethora of different personalities and I’m constantly on the chase or being thrown into the fire. This past month I made it a priority to get my balance back by working on my personal and spiritual growth.
Paige Chapman, is the owner extraordinaire of Mama's Wellness Joint. Besides her awesome IG feed @mamaswellnessjoint , Paige was also a former Doula, who happened to be mine when I had my son Oliver almost 7 years ago! Now she has created a wonderful community centered around yoga, wellness and healing. Even though she's not a mother herself, she knows how to help us feel more relaxed and rejuvenated.
Mama’s Wellness Joint is a boutique yoga studio and wellness center in the heart of Philly. Paige offers alternative wellness workshops, yoga and movement classes made to address the holistic needs of women, men and their families (not just mamas!). Paige is so good in fact, that I decided to sign myself up to join 7 other women at Mama’s Wellness Joint’s Yoga Retreat (#mwjgetaway) for a weekend in a lovely old house in the Poconos. We practiced yoga, ate really wonderful, freshly prepared food together, relaxed and enjoyed the surroundings.
My favorite part of the retreat was the sensational, personalized yoga practices that Paige designed especially for this group. After all, yoga was the driver of the trip. The New moon circle was pretty awesome as well.
It was a pleasant surprise to find out that I knew two of the women at the retreat already from my neighborhood. Paige brought together a diverse and caring group. Most of us there were moms so there was a lot of mom talk but also a lot of silence. After all, who doesn't want a little quiet time away? Two of the eight women are expecting their second children soon, which really made it such a special weekend between all the ladies.
Although I missed my family, this was the first time I went on a yoga retreat and I felt so lucky that I did. I would do it again in a heartbeat and I love reflecting back on some of the focus and learnings. One point that resonated with me was to remind myself to stop and listen to my body. I learned I need time on my own to revive.
Paige hosts these getaway retreats two times per year with Mama’s Wellness Joint. The next one will be this summer, likely in Woodstock, NY. Make sure to follow them on Facebook for more details about retreats to come. Mama’s Wellness Joint also operates The Collective. The group is currently looking to raise money for a space in the Philly region to host events like this retreat on a regular basis.
Hopefully see you next time!
