Nearby Neighborhoods: Dickinson Narrows, Wharton, Whitman, Queen Village

Known for: Its green spaces (Dickinson Square Park and Jefferson Square), the infamous Two Street Parade, and casual corner eateries.

Pennsport, like it’s neighbor Queen Village, is considered one of the oldest sections of South Philadelphia. Two and three story brick homes are a common sight, with the occasional new construction. Explore the well maintained streets and you will find a friendly community with families who have lived in the neighborhood for generations as well as new folks ready to call this neighborhood home.

As it is the Mummer headquarters, there is no shortage of Mummer pride. Although the parade now starts at Broad Street, a true local knows that the party starts at “Two Street”. The streets come alive with Mummers still decked in some version of costume after the parade and on through the wee hours of the morning every New Years Day. .

Dickinson Square Park and Jefferson Square are two large green spaces where you can find owners walking their pups, kids learning to ride bikes, and adults playing all sorts of lawn games. Herron Playground, complete with a water pad, is filled with children playing until the sun goes down.

Walkable to large retailers such as Ikea, Home Depot and Target, make errands easy. Hop on I-95 to access the rest of the city quickly. Although Septa is a quick 7 min walk, don’t forget the busses when in this hood. Better yet pop on your bike and head east to the bike path and trail along the Delaware. A great location is what this neighborhood is all about!
