Bring on the Flower Power!

In spring, summer, fall, and even winter- we love a good flower! One favorite time is when the bright yellow daffodils start to pop up. This first flower of spring comes with a lot of complications. Did you know that mixing daffodils and other flowers may cause a whole lot of trouble? They secrete a substance that can block other stems from drinking up water. This fun fact got us thinking about all the flowers out there and no matter how delicate or tricky to keep alive, we can’t live without them. We’re bringing you some of our favorite flower shops, places to visit, and anything flower inspired.

Visiting your flower friends

If you are looking to dive into the world of horticulture, pull your wellies on and take a stroll through one of the many public gardens we have in our backyard called Philly.

Philly Horticulture Society | HQ 100 N 20th St, Philadelphia | We are beyond lucky to have such an organization as PHS. Enjoy a drink and nosh at the Manayunk pop up (the 2022 season is sponsored by our brokerage Elfant Wissahickon!) or in the heart of South Philly. Beyond hanging in a pop-up, PHS is a treasure trove of information of what grows in our area and plant care, host a bevy of workshops and have plenty of volunteer opportunities on offer. They also host the world famous Flower Show (more on that below!).

Bartram Gardens | 5400 Lindbergh Blvd, Philadelphia | Welcome to the oldest surviving botanical garden in North America. Sitting on 50 acres that includes river access. The gardens are open to the public from dawn to dusk. Keep eyes open for their plant sale and annual spring fest.

Longwood Gardens | 1001 Longwood Rd, Kennett Square | Any flower list would be amiss without mentioning the famous Longwood Gardens. You’ll see something different with each visit. Get tickets to a summer event and make it an all day to evening affair.

Morris Arboretum | 100 E Northwestern Ave, Philadelphia | Flowering trees, flowers erupting from stone fences, tidy English gardens, it’s all here. If the little ones are done taking in the sights, head over to Out On a Limb, a canopy walk high above ground level.

The Navy Yard | 4747 S Broad St Philadelphia | More than just an office park, the Navy Yard’s ground are a true pleasure to stroll. Take in the various gardens throughout and make it a Tues - Thurs to hit up the food trucks.
