Known for: Historical Strawberry Mansion and access to East Fairmount Park

Strawberry Mansion in the Northwest area of Philadelphia. Its name is as charming as the story of where it came from; a restaurant that served decadent strawberries and cream back in 1846. Once a predominantly Jewish neighborhood and home to some of the wealthiest Philadelphians, in 2000, Strawberry Mansion had some of the lowest home prices in Philly. Today you will find low and high priced homes mixing in various neighborhood pockets. Close proximity to East Fairmont Park means new construction moving in, and renovations are becoming more popular in this area.

Famous names are no stranger to Strawberry Mansion. John Coltrane, (whos home is located at 33rd & Oxford) Jazmine Sullivan, Meek Mill, Jill Scott, Larry Fine, Allen Rosenberg, to name a few. Although Joe Frazier didn’t live in Strawberry Mansion, you will find Boxers Trail, named after him in East Fairmount Park. Don’t miss in participating in the annual Boxers Trail/5k.

The park is so much more than your typical green space. Mander Playground and Rec Center,  and Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse, provide activities for young ones. Tennis, sport fields and a public pool are all easily accessible.  Laurel Hill Cemetery hosts events like the ghostly circus,  and the holiday trolley & mansion tour. The Friends of Sedgley Woods keep a beautifully maintained frisbee golf course. Head toward the Schuylkill River and you can’t miss the Dell Music Center, which hosts incredible and legendary black musicians and comedy artists  throughout the season. If staying indoors is more your thing, check out the famous historical mansions that populate the neighborhood. Strawberry Mansion, Woodford Mansion, Laurel Hill Mansion and Ormiston Mansion can all be found in East Fairmount Park.

Strawberry Mansion Bridge connects North Philly to West Philly, cross it and hop onto I-76. Residents coming together and celebrating the pride they have in their community runs strong. Strawberry Mansion CDC and Strawberry Mansion Civic Association  are two networks that residents tap into for events, volunteer and political opportunities in the neighborhood.
